War and Peace | Fawley and Waterbury to Discuss Eastern European Security, Sept. 24

The Ohio University War and Peace Discussion Series hosts Maj. Darrell Fawley, Commander of the Army ROTC Bobcat Battalion, and Dr. Myra Waterbury, Professor of Political Science, discussing the contemporary challenges and opportunities in Eastern Europe as related to security issues on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

  • The talk will take place on Microsoft Teams. Interested faculty, students and community members should contact Fawley at fawley@ohio.edu to receive a link to the event.

Maj. Darrell Fawley

Fawley will talk about the history of U.S. military deterrence and response initiatives in post-WWII Europe and discuss current U.S. military efforts to support Eastern European allies.

Dr. Myra Waterbury

Waterbury will talk about the securitization of minorities within and between states in the region, responding to Russian hard and soft power influence in the region, and also the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and other regional hotspots.

The series has hosted debates and talks on a range of issues in the previous years, ranging from ISIS to cybersecurity.
