The War and Peace theme is co-sponsoring an Africa & War and Peace Lecture Series with the African Studies Program and the Institute for the African Child.
On Wednesday, March 18, from 3 to 4:30 pm, in Baker 231, Dr. Brandon Kendhammer, assistant professor of political science, will deliver the second lecture of the series. The radical Islamist insurgent group Boko Haram has received a great deal of international attention for the atrocities it has committed in northeastern Nigeria, but there’s been little talk about how the conflict (now almost 6 years old) has impacted ordinary people across the region. Dr. Kendhammer will offer a discussion of how northern Nigeria has coped with this violence over the past half-decade, with a particular focus on the impact on local economies, educational institutions, and governance.
