Happy Beginnings | LJC Certificate Students Starting Careers, Graduate School

Editor’s Note: The Happy Beginnings series features recent College of Arts & Sciences graduates who are getting started in careers, graduate school and service.

Center for Law, Justice & Culture faculty are very proud to recognize and celebrate the achievements of OHIO students graduating in Spring 2019 with the center’s Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture:

  • Skylar Hayes graduates with a major in Political Science Pre-Law, minor in Biological Sciences, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and is exploring careers at the State Department by taking the Foreign Service Officer test.
  • Darby Hickey graduates with a major in Anthropology and English Creative Writing and certificates in Law, Justice & Culture and Environmental Studies. She will pursue a JD at Case Western Reserve University School of Law in fall 2019.
  • Tori Jester graduates with a major in Sociology-Criminology, minor in Political Science, and Certificates in Law, Justice & Culture, Islamic Studies, and Middle East and North Africa. She will pursue her interests in social justice and criminal justice through a career in public policy and advocacy.
  • Alison Harper graduates with a major in Anthropology, minors in Psychology and Sociology, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture. She will pursue a Ph.D. in medical anthropology at Case Western Reserve University in fall 2019.
  • Karinne Hill graduates with majors in Sociology-Criminology and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture. She will pursue a JD at University of Cincinnati College of Law as a Taft Scholar.
  • Maddie Sloat graduates with a major in Communication Studies, minors in Political Science and Spanish, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture. She will work as a summer intern in the office of Senator Sherrod Brown in Washington D.C.
  • Amal Afouni graduates with majors in Political Science and Sociology-Criminology, minor in Economics, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and is considering employment in education policy, or taking a gap year to travel.
  • Margaret Mary Hicks graduates with a major in Journalism Strategic Communications, Certificates in Law, Justice & Culture and Social Media and will pursue a M.Sc. degree in Marketing at Trinity Business School at Trinity College Dublin.
  • Hannah Burke graduates with majors in Economics and Political Science, minor in Spanish, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and will pursue a summer internship with the International Economic Development Council in Washington, D.C.
  • Carly Kay graduates with a major in Sociology Pre-Law, minor in Psychology, and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and will pursue an M.A. in Law, Justice & Culture at Ohio University in Fall 2019.
  • Celestia Hathhorn graduates with a major in Communication Studies, Minor in Political Science, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture. She will complete her AmeriCorps position with Rural Action in Athens this summer, and then pursue an MPA at the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University in fall 2019.
  • Liz Latter graduates with a major in Sociology-Criminology, minor in Psychology, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and will pursue an M.A. in Law, Justice & Culture at Ohio University in fall 2019.
  • Georgia Curran graduates with a major in Communication Studies and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Anna DeGarmo graduates with a major in Geography Environmental Pre-Law, Certificates in Law, Justice & Culture and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies and will attend Cleveland-Marshall College of Law as part of the Dean’s Leadership Fellows program. She will concentrate and pursue a career in Environmental Law.
  • Dominic Detweiler graduates with a major in sociology, minors in Music, Political Science, and Psychology, and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Madeline Geiser graduates with a major in Political Science and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Trent Hoge graduates with a major in Communication Studies, minor in Sociology and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Alexis Hummer graduates with a major in Political Science Pre-Law, minor in Business Administration, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Craig Jenkins graduates with a major in Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies, minor in Political Science, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Gabriella Lorenzo graduates with majors in Political Science Pre-Law and Sociology-Criminology, minor in Psychology, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Lilli Sher graduates with a major in Journalism, minor in Political Science, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Lauren Smith graduates with majors in History and Political Science and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture.
  • Stephen Stafford graduates with a major in Political Science, Minor in Sociology, and Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and is planning to attend law school.
  • Sarah Vanderhoff graduates with a major in Communication Studies and a Certificate in Law, Justice & Culture and will pursue a JD in Fall 2019.
