RSVP Now for ‘A Taste of OHIO with Food Studies Theme,’ Oct. 10

The Food Studies theme presents “A Taste of OHIO with Food Studies Theme,” a Food for Thought homecoming event on Friday, Oct. 10, from 3 to 6 p.m.

The cost is $25 and covers transportation and cheese sampling. Participation is limited. Email foodstudies@ohio.edu to RSVP.

Food studies logo“Join us for an afternoon of lecture, garden tour and cheese tasting and fermentation fun,” says Dr. Theresa Moran, Assistant Professor of English and Food Studies theme faculty leader. “We start off at Walter Hall with College of Health Sciences and Professions Professor David Holben’s talk on Jefferson and early American gardens and proceed to the West State Street Research Site.

“At the garden we’ll learn about Community Food Initiatives and tour the Ohio University Food Matters student club plantings. We’ll dig and roast peanuts and find out about ancient diets in the Ohio Valley from College of Arts & Science Visiting Assistant Professor Paul Patton.

“Then we will travel across town to Jackie O’s Taproom and enjoy the rest of the afternoon sampling local cheese with Eric LeMay, author of r Immortal Milk: Adventures in Cheese and Assistant Professor of English, Creative Writing.

Mick Held, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, along with Jackie O’s brewmaster will lead us through the wonders of fermentation. Transport provided from Walter to garden site to Jackie O’s and then back to Walter. Cheese sampling included. Beer available for purchase.”
