Science Café: Nanoscience: Playing Soccer with Atoms and Molecules, Feb. 5

Science CafeScience Café presents Dr. Saw-Wai Hla on “Nanoscience: Playing Soccer with Atoms and Molecules” on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m. in the Baker Center Front Room.

Hla, Professor of Physics and Astronomy, “kicks” around atoms and molecules every day.His research focuses on individual atoms and how we can manipulate them. 

“Everything is made of atoms, but people normally don’t think about them,” he says. “It’s good to know how far we can control atoms.” During his café, Hla plans to show the audience videos and demonstrations of how we can play with atoms at a microscopic level.He also will discuss nanotechnology and its important role in helping us understand our environment.

Science Cafés and Café Conversations are held at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Baker Center Front Room. Café events are free and open to students, faculty and staff. Both cafés are venues for students to share their interests informally during a conversation exchange in a friendly setting. The Science Cafe is hosted by Dr. Sarah Wyatt, Professor of Environmental and Plant Biology and Vice President of the Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi.
