Science Cafe | A Dark and Lonely Place: Dark Energy and the Future of the Universe, Jan. 23

Science Café presents Dr. Doug Clowe discussing “A Dark and Lonely Place: Dark Energy and the Future of the Universe” on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 5 p.m. in the Front Room at Baker University Center.

Clowe is Associate Professor of Physics & Astronomy at Ohio University.

Clowe will discuss advances that astronomers have made in understanding the universe over the past 20 years and the implications for the future. He will explain the concepts of the expanding universe and the observations that have led to the discovery that the rate of expansion has been increasing over time. He will talk about what might be causing this acceleration, a mysterious substance called “dark energy.”

Clowe also will discuss the implications of dark energy for the future of the universe and give a preview of what we should expect to happen in the universe over the next 100 trillion years.
