Alumni News | Hurtado-Torres Wins Acclaim for Book on Chile’s Cold War

Foreign Affairs, published by the Council on Foreign Relations and one of the world’s leading forums for the discussion of international relations, announced Ohio University alumnus Dr. Sebastián Hurtado-Torres’s The Gathering Storm: Eduardo Frei’s Revolution in Liberty and Chile’s Cold War as one of its Best Books of 2020.

“This is an exceedingly rare accomplishment that attests to the depth of archival research, cogency of analysis, and engaging style that Dr. Hurtado-Torres deployed for his dissertation, which he then turned into this impactful book,” says Dr. Ingo Trauschweizer, Professor and Director of the Contemporary History Institute.

Sebastián Hurtado-Torres’s The Gathering StormHurtado-Torres earned a Ph.D. in History in 2016 from the College of Arts & Sciences, along with a Contemporary History Certificate.

He teaches at the Instituto de Historia USS, Universidad San Sebastian in Santiago de Chile.
