Dayton’s Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast interviewed Dr. Ryan Fogt in an episode headlined “Climate Matters.”

Fogt, a climatologist and Associate Professor of Geography at Ohio University, was interviewed by WHIO-TV Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs and Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini.

Zontini is an Ohio University alum who studied meteorology with Fogt and earned a B.S. in Journalism in 2011 from the Scripps College of Communication.

“My areas of focus actually is in the southern hemisphere. I am interested in understanding patterns of variability in the southern hemisphere atmosphere and ocean and a little bit into the ice—and why they’re changing and what is causing those changes and, perhaps, how they might change in the future,” Fogt said in the interview.

“My passion is actually Antarctica. I’ve been down to the ice three times as a grad student at Ohio State. And I look at patterns…. I use a blend of observations that are collected down in Antarctica from weather stations and staffed research bases and climate models and reconstructions to help me to understand past climate and current changes in that context of the longer picture.”
