Dr. Nukhet Sandal was named the next Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies at the 60th International Studies Association annual convention last week in Toronto, Canada.
Sandal also co-chaired the ISA convention, “Re-Visioning International Studies: Innovation and Progress,” March 27-30, with Jenifer Whitten-Woodring of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The International Studies Association is one of the oldest interdisciplinary associations dedicated to understanding international, transnational and global affairs, with more than 8,000 members. The convention features more than 6,500 people with 1,250 panels and roundtables, which were put together by Sandal and Whitten-Woodring and their team of section program chairs over the course of the year. After the convention, Sandal will continue to serve the association as a member of its Long Range Planning Committee.
Sandal is Associate Professor of Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University and Director of Global Studies in OHIO’s Center for International Studies.
The Oxford Research Encyclopedia of International Studies, published by the ISA and Oxford University Press, has global reach. Sandal will become editor in January 2020.
“This is a real mark of distinction and credit to Dr. Sandal’s reputation in the field,” said Dr. Joseph Shields, Interim Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
Dr. Lorna Jean Edmonds, Director of the Center for International Studies, noted that the ISA conference was a “brilliant success” and said Sandal “will provide excellent and impactful leadership to this major initiative.”
