Under the motto “Ending Hunger Starts with OHIO,” the Wealth and Poverty theme hosts its annual World Food Day food drive throughout October.

The United Nations’ World Food Day is Oct. 16, “a day of action against hunger” involving people from around the world.

OHIO collection sites for non-perishable items for Good Works in Athens include:

  • Collection at Kroger on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 1-4pm.
  • Collections through Oct. 31 in campus and residence hall locations.

This year’s drive is particularly special, said Dr. Yeong Kim, Associate Professor of Geography, “because we collaborate with the Ohio University Chapter of the American Meteorological Society (OUCAMS)” to collect nonperishable food items for Good Works Inc., a local charity organization that offers hot meals to our hungry and homeless neighbors. OUCAMS students will host a food collection event at the Kroger in the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 13, while Wealth and Poverty Certificate students will place boxes at residence halls and nearby apartments.”

To host a food drive in a department office or university building, contact Kim at kimy1@ohio.edu or Steven Weinstein of OUCAMS at sw693116@ohio.edu for boxes, flyers, and other supplies.
