Learn about volunteer opportunities, internships, and career paths with local and national non-profits and service organizations at the first “Work That Matters” Service & Career Fair. Meet and network with representatives from Peace Corps, Teach for America, City Year, Urban Teachers, FoodWorks Alliance, OhioHealth Hospice in Athens, YMCA Camp Willson, AmeriCorps NCCC, Museum of Discovery, and more. The fair will take place Tuesday, April 5 from 1 to 5 pm in Baker University Center’s Bobcat Student Lounge, on the first floor. Peace Corps

Peace Corps is offering full-time positions. They are looking for applicants who is skilled in problem solving, interpersonal skills, innovation and adaptability.

Peace Corps offers hundreds of different positions in over 60 countries across the globe. They work in education, health environment, agriculture, economic development, and youth development.

Urban Teachers

Urban Teachers is offering full-time positions. They are looking for applicants who are skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills, innovation, adaptability, flexibility, and self-reflection.

Urban Teachers looks to transform the way people are prepared for a career in teaching. Through hands-on training, coaching and peer supports, they give teachers the skills they need to improve outcomes for students in high-need communities. By doing so, the teachers are changing the lives of the students, families and communities they serve, as well as their own.

Urban Teachers is now accepting applications for their Baltimore, Dallas, and Washington, DC corps for the 2016-2017 school year, with placement in mid-to-late June 2016. The recruitment process is selective. Though there is no restriction on undergraduate or graduate major, Urban Teachers looks for applicants who have exhibited academic excellence by maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher, who gravitate toward big challenges and have experience working with children. Urban Teachers participants are part of an unprecedented commitment to student performance: only those who demonstrate effective teaching practice, student learning gains and growth mindset/professionalism are recommended for certification (general and special education) and complete the full four-year program. Urban Teachers is an Employer of National Service. Our next application deadline is May 2, and spaces are filling fast.

OhioHealth Hospice in Athens

OhioHealth Hospice in Athens is offering part-time, internship, seasonal and volunteer opportunities. They are looking for applicants who are skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills, innovation, and comfort with the elderly and the ill (of any age).

Unpaid internships are available in fall, spring and summer. Interns have the opportunity to work in the office on administrative tasks for a number of different departments and, after training, receive their own field assignments. Interns are acquainted with the entire range of home health and hospice challenges and triumphs.

Volunteers have opportunities in the field with their clients on companionship and/or meal assistance visits. Volunteers can also assist in the office with volunteer services, bereavement and other administrative tasks. Seasonal volunteers work in the summer on our Flower Power initiative, which includes arranging donated flowers on Monday afternoons.

Community Work Study is a federal program which pairs students eligible for financial aid with community organizations. Work study students have the same opportunities as volunteers and interns.

Teach for America

Teach for America is offering full-time, internship, and volunteer positions. They are looking for applicants who are skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills, innovation, and adaptability.

At the full-time level, Teach for America is seeking applicants for the Corps Member position. Over the past 25 years, Teach for America has helped more than 50,000 people from a wide variety of backgrounds become inspirational teachers. As a corps member, you are a full-time teacher with all the responsibility and opportunity for creativity and impact that teaching brings. It is a job with immediate leadership opportunities on education’s front line, where the stakes are high for kids who deserve to have all the opportunities that a great education offers.

At the internship level, Teach for America is looking for Campus Campaign Coordinators. Campus Campaign Coordinators are campus-based interns working as part of the Teach for America recruitment team. CCCs are charged with building awareness of educational inequity and Teach for America’s work. CCCs work to develop and execute a detailed strategic plan aimed at inspiring top students to apply for the corps. At the same time, CCCs enhance their professional skills in networking, marketing, and communication, while gaining an understanding of how a successful nonprofit organization operates.

Another internship opportunity is available in the Operations Coordinator position. Operations Coordinators work as summer interns at one of Teach for America’s national or regional institutes. Operations Coordinators are part of the Institute Operations Team, the staff responsible for the design and execution of institute logistics. Operations Coordinators work on the ground at training sites helping communities in need as they develop project management and operations skills. Operations Coordinators are typically rising college seniors.

Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery

The Ohio Valley Museum of Discovery is offering positions at the volunteer level to students with interpersonal skills and experience working with children. This position may be of special interest to education advocates, those interested in science or the arts, and those who enjoy planning events or are looking for volunteer hours on Saturday mornings. YMA Camp Willson

YMCA Camp Willson is hiring at the part-time, internship, and seasonal levels. They are looking for applicants skilled in problem solving, team development or collaboration, and interpersonal skills. YMCA Camp Willson is hiring Summer Camp Counselors, who will participate in nine weeks of overnight camping with children, and Equestrian Camp Counselors, who will participate in 11 weeks of overnight camping with horses and children.

Ohio Association of Foodbanks

The Ohio Association of Foodbanks is hiring at the full-time and seasonal levels. Applicants should be skilled in problem solving, team development and collaboration and innovation. They are currently recruiting for more than 50 year-long AmeriCorps VISTA positions statewide, as well as for AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates to serve a ten-week term across the state. There are a wide variety of positions available from volunteer recruitment and retention to curriculum development for financial literacy, job skills, and after-school programs from serving summer lunches to helping with a community garden.

Athens CASA/GAL Program

The Athens CASA/GAL Program is hiring at the internship, seasonal, and volunteer levels. Applicants should be skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills, innovation, and adaptability. The program is always accepting applications for volunteer advocates, internships and volunteer opportunities related to special events, marketing and recruitment.

AmeriCorps NCCC

AmeriCorps NCCC is hiring at the full-time and volunteer levels. Applicants should be skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills, innovation and adaptability. They are hiring for the positions of AmeriCorps NCCC Corps Member, AmeriCorps NCCC Team Leader, FEMA Corps Member and FEMA Corps Team Leader.

City Year

City Year is hiring full-time employees and AmeriCorps Members. Applicants should be skilled in problem solving, self-awareness, team development or collaboration, interpersonal skills and adaptability.

Beginning each day before the first school bell rings and staying until the last child leaves the after-school program, City Year employees will serve students, schools and communities through:

1. Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before during and after school.

2. Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead energetic morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls to home and lead mentor groups.

3. Community and School Improvements: Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the community and school environment.

4. Team-based service is at the heart of City Year. Employees will be assigned to a diverse team of eight to 15 young adults who you will serve with for the duration of the year.

Community Engagement Program

Community Engagement Program is looking to hire volunteers. Applicant should be passionate and driven to help others that are in need of volunteers for their organization and/or events that are happening.

Volunteer opportunities could include setting up at the local Ohio Farmer’s Market, participating in the Southeast Ohio Foodbank events, becoming regular volunteers with our service partners such as Goodwill, Inc., and many more.
