Political Science Alum Named Chief Prosecuting Attorney, Civil Division

Ohio University alum Mary Montgomery, who majored in Political Science in the College of Arts & Sciences, has been appointed to the position of Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of the Civil Division of the Prosecutor’s Office in Dayton. Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr.’s announcement was reported by Fox 45.

Montgomery received her B.A. in Political Science from Ohio University in 1994. She then attended the University of Dayton School of Law, receiving her law degree in 1998. She joined the Prosecutor’s Office in 1998. She has been assigned to the former Child Support Enforcement Division, Juvenile Delinquency Division, Child Abuse Bureau (Care House), Grand Jury and Criminal Docket sections of the office.

From March 2007 until March 2008, Montgomery was the Supervising Attorney of the Intake and Grand Jury Division. In March 2008, she was promoted to the position of Criminal Trial Supervisor. Ms. Montgomery has extensive trial experience. She has handled numerous complex and high‐profile media cases, including Eva Christian, Jamie Shaffer and Joshua Sellers, and Anthony Stargell….

“I believe Mary will do an excellent job as the chief of my Civil Division,” Heck said. “Her knowledge, trial experience and commitment to excellence makes her well qualified for this challenging leadership position.”
