Dr. Jieli Li, Professor of Sociology, is the new editor-in-chief of the journal American Review of China Studies, which is now partially sponsored by the College of Arts & Sciences.
The journal is official journal of Association of Chinese Professors of Social Sciences in the United States (founded in 1995) and has been published biannually since 1999. The journal features an interdisciplinary approach to China or China-related research and published research papers and book reviews touching upon both historical and contemporary issues of China studies. The journal has gained its visibility among scholars of China/East Asia studies in the world, particularly in the United States and Asia regions.
Before moving to the Sociology & Anthropology Department at Ohio University’s College of Arts & Sciences, the journal was hosted and financed by the history and geography department and West Pacific Research Institute of Central Oklahoma University and the journal’s former editor was Dr. Xiaobing Li, Professor and Chair of History at COU.
“I took over the editorship at the end of last year and my term will be six years,” says Li. “I am very grateful that the OHIO College of Arts & Sciences has provided financial assistance for the journal’s production, and I believe the journal will definitely bring more visibility to Ohio University, particularly to Asia studies program and international studies in general.”
Outstanding Service Award
Li also received an Outstanding Service Award at the 19th ACPSS International Conference held at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, Nov 1-3. This annual conference is co-sponsored by the Association of Chinese Professors of Social Sciences in the U.S., United Societies of China Studies in the U.S, and the Asian Studies Program at the University of Louisville. In addition, Li’s co-authored article on the safety issues of China’s nuclear energy development has just been published in a Chinese Scholarly Journal.
Li also was announced as one of nominees for Faculty Award for Excellence in Global Engagement at last week’s award ceremony of Ohio University’s 2013 International Education Week. He was also honorably mentioned in the award program.
