The Charles J. Ping Institute for the Teaching of the Humanities proudly presents an online workshop for high school teachers, A Short History of Racism from 1619 to Black Lives Matter, on April 10, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Ohio University history professors Katherine Jellison and Brian Schoen will explore the historical development of racism in America. They will focus particularly on slavery and freedom’s complicated relationship through the Revolution and American Civil War and how even after slavery ended, its main legacy, race, continued to inform federal policies ranging from labor law to housing.
Participation is limited to 15 persons in order to enable a lively discussion. Certificates will be available for those participants wishing a record of the contact hours for their LPDC.
