Students are invited to meet and network with three Ohio University alumni at the English Career Panels on Friday, Jan. 31, in Ellis 109 on the Athens Campus.
Students can attend either session:
- 11:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.
- 1:10 to 1:55 p.m.
This event is part of the College of Arts & Sciences Career & Networking Week, Jan. 27 to Feb. 1, 2020.
About the Panelists
Olivia Cobb | Returned Peace Corps Volunteer
Olivia Cobb graduated in May of 2018 with a degree in English from the Honors Tutorial College, accompanied by an emphasis in creative writing, a minor in World Religions, a certificate in Law, Justice and Culture, and other untitled things she’s equally proud of.
Following a year of service as a Youth Development Volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Morocco, Cobb returned to the United States and is currently living in Milwaukee after working as a fundraiser on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Megan C. Kelley | Vice President of Public Policy & Government Relations, National Church Residences
Megan C. Kelley graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus in Creative Writing in 2001 and went on to attend law school at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, graduating in 2006.
She currently services as the Vice President of Public Policy and Government Relations for National Church Residences, the nation’s largest nonprofit provider of affordable senior housing and healthcare. In that role she serves as the organization’s advocate and lobbyist and works to secure public policies at local, state, and federal levels in furtherance of the nonprofit’s charitable purpose.
She began her career in public affairs working in the Ohio legislature. After becoming an attorney, she worked in private legal practice, focusing her work in civil litigation, including but not limited to election and political law representing government officials, candidates, and policy initiative groups until joining National Church Residences in 2012.
In addition to her work at National Church Residences, in 2016 Kelley was appointed by Ohio’s governor to a six-year term on the Ohio Ethics Commission, which administers and enforces Ohio’s ethics laws and regulations. She currently serves as the ranking democratic member and vice chair of the commission.
Elena Kennedy, Global Strategic Alliance Director at Splunk
Elena Kennedy is a Global Strategic Alliance Director at Splunk, a San Francisco-based software company. She is currently managing their business relationship with Google Cloud, which includes working together on initiatives to drive mutually beneficial business outcomes for their joint customers. Over the course of her career, she has progressed in different roles including quality assurance testing, product marketing and also business development, many of these roles in alliance with Microsoft. She enjoys working for and with companies that prioritize diversity and inclusion and she enjoys being in roles that allow her to collaborate with many different kinds of people worldwide. She works remotely from her home in Dayton, OH, so that she can spend time with her husband and together enjoy their children’s many sporting activities.
John Woods, Credentialing Specialist
John Woods grew up in Appalachian Ohio. He is a 2009 graduate of Ohio University’s creative writing program. His debut novel, Lady Chevy, will be published in June by Pegasus Books. He has published short stories in Meridian, Midwestern Gothic, Fiddleblack, and The Rag. He works as a Credentialing Specialist for The Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Services Board and lives in Yorktown, Va.
