Dr. Morgan Vis, Professor of Environmental & Plant Biology, was elected Vice President and President-elect of the International Phycological Society.
The society promotes the study of algae as well as fostering international cooperation among scientists and phycological societies around the world and hosts the International Phycological Congress every four years.
Vis started her term as Vice President in January 2018 and will become president in January 2020 for two years.
“I am very honored to be elected to this position and am excited to officiate at the 12th Congress held in the spring of 2021 in Puerto Varas, Chile,” she said.
At the 11th Congress Vis and colleagues were award the George F. Papenfuss Award for outstanding research poster.
