Hello Sociology & Anthropology Bobcats and Friends,

Welcome to our summer e-newsletter! We had a busy spring semester and have been happy to see many of our alumni.

We are excited to see many of you again this year at the Arts & Sciences Homecoming Tent on Oct. 20. We’ll be participating with this event yearly, so plan to come by if you are coming to Homecoming. Stacey (Saunders) Ansel ’92 responded to our invitation to stop by the office and see us! We hope to see more of you this October – just be sure to drop by Bentley Annex on Thursday or Friday before 5 p.m. for a gift!

Last fall four of our alumni were nominated for and recognized as Notable Alumni in the College of Arts & Sciences in a ceremony in October.

Our Notable Alumni are:

Again this year our alumni have been coming to campus to speak with students and our students are really excited to hear from you.

Bryttani Barker ’12, ’16M came and spoke to our students about anti-human trafficking, and Michael Richard ’12 ’13M spoke with students about anti-money laundering.

Several alumni visited campus Feb. 1 during Arts & Sciences Career & Networking Week and took time to have lunch with students. A few stayed on and headed to Baker Center to take advantage of resume review services and to network with student and other alumni.

Not only are we always happy to see our alums, but our students really enjoy hearing about what people have done with their degrees.

It is wonderful to see where you all are and what you are doing. Keep it up we enjoy hearing from you. Please email Ann Bennett [bennetta@ohio.edu] with your update – or perhaps recommend another alum to spotlight.

In department news, Ted Welser received the Stanley L. Saxton Applied Research Award for a study of rural young professionals and “belongingness,” and new Anthropology labs opened in Central Classroom!

Fall 2017 saw the arrival of new faculty Amanda Cox, Instructor of Sociology, Paula Miller, Assistant Professor of Sociology, and Matthew Rosen, Assistant Professor of Anthropology.

Joining us this Fall is alum Holly Ningard ’12 ’14M as Lecturer of Sociology.

Be sure to watch for future e-newsletter installments!

Best wishes,

Christine Mattley
