OPIE Zone | Writing Contest, Honors for Perfect Attendance

Welcome to Week 7 of The OPIE Zone Newsletter. Here the important events happening during the seventh week of the semester. We hope you’ll join us for some of them.

OPIE Writing Contest

The OPIE Ambassadors invite you to participate in a writing contest that it is organizing for OPIE students. Students at the elementary level can submit a paragraph whilst those at the intermediate and above level will be required to send in essays. Works submitted in OPIE classes are accepted.

Prizes

1^st Prize: Ohio University sweatshirt.
1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd Prize: The best three essays will appear on the College of Arts & Sciences Forum and in the OPIE Zone.

Requirements

Category 1: Submit a paragraph on any topic that you wrote in your OPIE class.
Category 2: Submit an essay on any topic that you wrote in your OPIE class.

Assessment

Your essay will be evaluated on the basis of:

Originality of ideas
Organization of thoughts
Use of academic vocabulary
Accurate use of grammar
Appropriate transitional devices
Appropriate verb tenses
Appropriate punctuation

Submission Guidelines: Submit your essay to Andrea Johannes at johannes@ohio.edu, or turn in your essay to Kim Young in Gordy 155.

Contest Deadline: All paragraphs or essays must be submitted by Friday, March 30.

OPIE Honors List for Perfect Attendance

These students have had perfect attendance in their OPIE classes from the beginning of spring semester up to the end of week five, so we’d like to recognize their excellent participation. Please keep up the good work!
