Alumni News | Northup Honored for Career as Litigation Attorney

Ohio University alum Jarrett J. Northup ’96 has been included in Marquis Who’s Who, according to a news release headlined Jarrett J. Northup, JD, Celebrates More than 15 Years of Professional Excellence.

Northup earned a B.A. in Philosophy from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.

As in all Marquis Who’s Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 11 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Northup currently works as a partner at Jeffries, Kube, Forrest and Monteleone Co., LPA, a position he has held since 2013. Prior to this appointment, he worked as a litigation attorney for the same esteemed legal firm from 2007 to 2012. During this time, Mr. Northup additionally served as a law clerk for Jeffries, Kube, Forrest and Monteleone Co., LPA, from 2004 to 2006.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Northup pursued an education at Ohio University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, cum laude, in 1996. He completed his studies at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in 2006, graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. During his academic undertakings, Mr. Northup also honorably served on the Trial Team and the International Law Moot Court.

Beyond his efforts within the field, Mr. Northup has contributed to multiple endeavors outside of his professional circles. A licensed captain by the United States Coast Guard, he held the position of Wilderness Flyfishing Guide for the Alaska West Mission Lodge and Kamchatka Fishing Adventures from 1998 to 2004. He served in the same position for the Southern Chile Adventures from 2000 to 2003. Furthermore, Mr. Northup has taught numerous continuing legal education seminars for the National Business Institute from 2011 to the present.

In addition to his impressive career, Mr. Northup remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. Licensed to practice law by the Ohio State Bar Association since 2006, he has also previously been admitted to practice by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio as well as the Southern District of Ohio. Mr. Northup has maintained further membership with the Cleveland Bar Association since 2007, the Lake County Bar Association since 2007, and the American Association for Justice since 2005.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Northup has accrued numerous accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. In 2005, he received the Pro Bono/Community Service Award from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He was also recognized as a “Rising Star” by the Ohio Super Lawyers from 2012 to 2016, during which time he was also selected among the 10 Best by the American Institute of Personal Injury Attorneys in 2015. Most recently, Mr. Northup was honored as a Super Lawyer by Thomson Reuters in 2017.

Initially studying environmental law before finding his calling as a trial advocacy lawyer in complex litigation, Mr. Northup attributes his success to fearlessness and determination, which allows him to take on large companies and unprecedented cases. Though he has acquired many awards over the past several years, he is most proud of a case that resulted in anti-corruption racketeering litigation. Looking toward the future, Mr. Northup aims to shift his efforts towards public advocacy alongside other ethical and skilled attorneys who have the best interest of the public at heart.
