Commissioner-elect Kent Leonhardt announced the first hires of his leadership team. Joseph Hatton will act as Deputy Agriculture Commissioner, Norman Bailey will act as Chief of Staff and Crescent Gallagher will serve as Communications Director in Leonhardt’s new administration.

“Leadership is about having the right people around you that you know can get the job done. Joe, Norm and Crescent will bring a wealth of knowledge and innovation to the Agriculture Department”, said Commissioner-elect Kent Leonhardt. “Trust has always been a part of my leadership style and these guys will be my trusted advisors over the next four years.”…

Crescent Gallagher worked for the West Virginia Republican Party during the historic election cycle of 2014 that gave Republicans their first majority in both legislatures in over 80 years. Since then, he has served in the West Virginia Speaker of the House’s office as a policy analyst and most recently ran Congressman David McKinley’s re-election campaign. Gallagher holds a BA in Political Science and a Master’s of Public Administration from Ohio University. During his graduate studies, Gallagher worked for the Appalachian Rural Health Institute to help develop a non-profit called the Ohio Rural Health Association. He is originally from North East Ohio and has been in West Virginia since 2013.

“Each of these gentlemen bring something unique to the table that will help fundamentally change how agriculture is viewed and developed in West Virginia. With the right team in place, West Virginia will see brighter days in the near future,” Leonhardt stated.
