Alum Selected Chief Managing Editor of Cleveland State Law Review

Kerry Barrett ’14 was recently selected to be the Chief Managing Editor of the Cleveland State Law Review for the 2016-17 editorial year. She also recently accepted a summer associate position at the firm of Jones Day at its Cleveland office.

Kerry Barrett in front of office window overlooking city buildings behind herAfter graduating from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University with her B.A. in Sociology-PreLaw with minors in Political Science and English, as well as a Certificate in Political Communication, Barrett headed to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University as a Juris Doctor Candidate.

She also spent four months serving as a Judicial extern for Judge Mary Eileen Kilbane in The Court of Appeals at Ohio, Eighth Appellate District.

Certifications Lead to LexisNexis Role

After receiving certifications in National Research (LexisNexis), Specialty Research Certification in Labor and Employment Law (LexisNexis), and WestLaw Research (Thomson Reuters), Barrett has been a Student Associate representing LexisNexis since August 2015 as a liaison between students and account representatives.

In this role, she instructs students on how to conduct efficient and successful legal research and assists with legal research utilizing LexisAdvance.

Providing Assistance to Law School Students

During the same time, as Academic Excellence Program Fellow in Legislation and the Regulatory State at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, she has been instructing students on core competencies necessary for successful study of administrative law and techniques of statutory construction.

She also provides assistance to students in developing techniques and skills necessary to master the transition from their prior experiences in higher education to the unique demands of a law school curriculum.
