Spanish Alum Was Teacher at Conneaut High School

Former Conneaut (OH) resident, Betty Lou Humphrey ’50, age 86, passed away Jan. 3, 2015, at the Grande Village Retirement Center in Twinsburg, Ohio, according to the Star Beacon.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.

Born May 28, 1928, in Youngstown, Ohio, Betty Lou was the daughter of Jesse J. and Beulah (Switzer) Bascom. She graduated from Rayon High School and Ohio University.

Betty Lou was employed as a Spanish teacher at Conneaut High School and also taught Spanish, English, and French at Ashtabula High School.

She was a member of New Leaf United Methodist Church where she formerly sang in the choir. She was also a member of the former MacDowell Music Club. Betty Lou enjoyed playing bridge with a number of bridge clubs, walking, going to the beach at Conneaut Township Park, reading, and solving crossword puzzles.
