Juli Accurso ’14 was one of just 10 scholar-athletes in a five-state region named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, adding yet another accolade to her academic and athletic accomplishments. Accurso maintains a 3.88 cumulative GPA while pursuing a double major in French and Linguistics.

“It’s always great to see our students excel in multiple parts of their experience as students at Ohio University. A double major in French and Linguistics is not an easy major. We are very proud of Juli for both her academic and athletic accomplishments!” says Dr. Christopher Thompson, Chair of the Linguistics Department in the Ohio University College of Arts & Sciences.

“Juli was my student in a number of classes. She is not only a super athlete but also an extremely dedicated and successful student. She is a pleasure to work with and a very nice person. Serious, friendly, dedicated, always trying to improve already excellent skills. She is an ideal student,” says Dr. Dominique Duvert, Assistant Professor of French in the Department of Modern Languages.

“I had Juli in two of my advanced French classes.  She is a role model for excellence in academics and athletics. She was always prepared, made no excuses, and didn’t even seem to be stressed.  She’s an amazing young woman,” adds Dr. Lois Vines, Professor of French.

The junior was named to the NCAA Division I District 5 First Team with 10 other student-athletes from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. The second team is comprised of 15 student-athletes.

As a first team selection, Accurso automatically earns a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot. The first-, second- and third-team All-America selections will be announced in late June.

She is the first Academic All-District pick for Ohio track since 2011 and just the 11th selection in program history.
