History Association Hosts Panel on The Queen’s Gambit, April 8

The Ohio University History Association hosts “Historical Themes in The Queen’s Gambit” from 6-7 p.m. on April 8 via Teams.

After the panelists’ presentations, there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about the show and historical topics. The event is free, and open to all Ohio University faculty, staff, and students.

The Queen’s Gambit, a Netflix original show, follows the life of an orphan chess prodigy, Elizabeth Harmon, in the 1960s during her quest to become the world’s greatest chess player.

The show is based on the book written by former Ohio University English Professor Walter Tevis.

Dr. Steven Miner, Professor of History, will talk about the history of the Cold War as a backdrop for the show.
