Abstract: How to communicate science to various publics is widely discussed in scientific communities, yet we continue to struggle to reach people with our messages.  Using the frames of human learning, social roles, and informal science learning, we can begin to understand the real challenges in sharing our messages.  Grounded in 35 plus years of the presenter’s research and teaching about learning in a variety of settings, this symposium will use the emerging theory of learningscapes to allow us to position our messages about our scientific research within the complexity of a person and the many facets of their lives that all come to play in how they hear and interpret what we have to say.
