The Wealth & Poverty Focus on Africa series presents Dr. Jeffrey Giesey, Associate Dean of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, on Engineering Projects in Ghana on Sept 24 from noon  to 1 p.m. in Schoonover 450.

Watch on A&S TV.

Abstract: For more than 10 years, Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering and Technology has maintained a relationship with the village of Maase-Offinso in Ghana. One of the goals of this interaction is the mutual benefit of both the students of the college and the village. The village has been helped with some of their infrastructure needs in areas such as housing, energy, and water, while Russ College students have been helped in their development as globally proficient engineers. In this presentation we will discuss both what we have done and what we have learned.

Giesey has been at Ohio University for 27 years. He assumed the duties of Associate Dean for Academics in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology in July 2012. For the four years preceding this, he was co-director of the Q2S University’s transition from quarters to semesters. He also served as assistant chair in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and held a Fulbright Fellowship in Namibia where he helped the Polytechnic of Namibia to develop its first bachelor’s degree program in engineering. He also initiated the college’s student chapter of Engineers without Borders.
