The Linguistics Colloquium series presents Kathryn Hille discussing “Quantitative Methods in Linguistics” on Friday, Nov. 1, from 12:55 to 1:55 p.m. in Gordy 301.

Hille is a professor for the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE), with a B.A. in Ancient Languages, and a M.A. in Intercultural Studies.

Abstract: Hille will introduce quantitative methods and illustrate how they can be meaningfully used for research in the field of linguistics. Attendees will gain a visual and conceptual understanding of both basic statistical concepts and several advanced types of quantitative analysis. This understanding will empower attendees, regardless of prior statistical knowledge or mathematical ability, to better interpret the findings of journal articles in linguistics that employ quantitative methods.
