Ceara Purcell
Ohio University first-year master’s student Ceara Purcell was awarded the Ying-Chien Chang Graduate Scholarship in the Geological Sciences Department.
Purcell is conducting research for her M.S. thesis project, “How Did Ecological Niches Evolve During Ordovician Environmental Change? A Test Using Laurentian Brachiopods,” with Dr. Alycia Stigall.
The scholarship was established in 1999 and awarded to high-achieving graduate students with a GPA of 3.8 or above. Ying-Chien was an OHIO alumna who had a love of paleontology, geology, astronomy, and mathematics. She was an enthusiastic educator who supported graduate students in the departments of geological sciences, physics & astronomy, and mathematics. The scholarship was endowed in 2017 upon her passing.
