Abstract: For anyone who is a fan of science and technology, nothing is more exciting than learning of a new Science and Technology breakthrough, particularly when it has application to a societal breakthrough or potentially changes our understanding of the physical universe. Such advances can appear to happen overnight, and the seemingly unrelated winding road of fundamental research that enabled the latest advance may not be so apparent. The story of one-such advance will be presented which is now demonstrating life-saving capability for treating certain types of cancer. A brief overview of the U.S. program in nuclear science will also be presented.
