Zachary Tidaback ’07 Philosophy

Ohio Univeristy alum Zachary Tidaback is an attorney at Mollica, Gall, Sloan & Sillery Co. LP.A. in Athens, Ohio. He concentrates his practice primarily in criminal defense, civil trial practice, family law, and workers’ compensation claims.

Now he’s helping the Philosophy Department establish a Legal Internship program to help students get experience while they are in college.

Originally from Bucyrus, Ohio, Tidaback graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. At OHIO, he was presented a philosophy academic achievement award, earned Dean’s List recognition, and was a member of the National Scholars Honors Society.

Tidaback earned his Juris Doctor in 2011 from New England Law Boston, where he was a volunteer member of the International Law Society for Human Rights and also earned Dean’s List distinctions. Tidaback was admitted to the bar of the State of Ohio in 2011 and the United States Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in 2016.

In 2016, Tidaback was recognized by the National Trial Lawyers as being one of the Top 40 under 40 lawyers in Ohio. Prior to joining Mollica Gall Sloan & Sillery, Zach worked as a law clerk in Boston, and as an associate in Columbus, Ohio, where he represented clients in criminal, civil, domestic, labor/employment, and appellate law matters.

Tidaback is also an international member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and holds memberships with the American Bar Association, Ohio Association for Justice, and the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Highlights of a Mentor(s) from Ohio University

  • Dr. Arthur Zucker—Working one-on-one with Zucker on Wittgenstein and in an independent study pertaining to the philosophy of psychology/epistemology with emphasis on Freud. Tidaback cites Zucker as “the best mentor I ever had,” one who “always took the time to meet with me and truly cared about my plans and how to achieve my goals.” Tidaback and Zucker remain friends and have stayed in touch over the past decade since Tidaback graduated from Ohio University.
  • Dr. Jack Bender and Dr. Alfred Lent— Tidaback worked with Bender and Lent to form a Legal Internship program through Ohio University’s Philosophy Department.
  • Dr. Steve Hays—“Although difficult to accept at the time,” Tidaback says, “Dr. Hays pushed me to study and work harder than I ever have before, in turn, making me a better student.”
