Ohio University students are invited to a workshop on March 22 to learn more about how to get involved in undergraduate research, an experience that many OHIO students translate into future career and graduate school plans.
The workshop, “Research: Where Do I Start?” is Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in Morton 201. The workshop is open to all OHIO students regardless of major, but it may be especially useful for first- and second-year students.
Any academically motivated student who is curious about campus funding opportunities for original research or creative projects will likely find this “getting started” workshop useful.
“If you are thinking about getting involved in undergraduate research, this workshop is a great place to start! You will get a broad overview of the research opportunities available to undergraduates on campus, as well as advice on how to find a faculty mentor and get into a lab or the field,” said Bekka S. Brodie, Ph.D., undergraduate research coordinator for the Ohio Honors Program and assistant professor of instruction in Biological Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences.
Dr. Christopher Lewis, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards, and Brodie will discuss about upcoming deadlines and eligibility requirements for some of Ohio University’s undergraduate research opportunities, including:
- Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP)
- Experiential Learning Grant
- Provost’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship (PURF)
- Departmental Honors Programs, a senior capstone experience offered on many majors
There workshop also features a panel of undergraduate students to answer our questions and provide a student prospective.
