Abstract: In this presentation, I will discuss and examine the ways in which physicists have engaged in diversity work. I will utilize a framework for three major approaches to doing diversity work:

  1. Acknowledging and naming
  2. Affirming
  3. Removing barriers

These approaches will be examined with goals of attending to the affordances of existing diversity work and identifying the constraints for those currently seeking to diversify the field. I will then go in more depth about research efforts aimed at addressing diversity in graduate school.
