Castaneda is Assistant Professor of Instruction in Linguistics and Wagner is a Ph.D. student in Instructional Communication at Ohio University.

Abstract: As part of the study of Language and Social Interaction (LSI) methods, the authors will present preliminary research on teacher humor usage in the ESL classroom following a combination of methods: ethnography of communication (EoC) (Hymes, 1976) and cultural communication (CC) (Carbaugh, Berry, & Nurmikari-Berry, 2006). These explorations will display how instructors attempt of humor are present in an ESL environment.
