Uptown Athens | Corn Dog and Fried Pickles at Souvlaki’s

By Abigail Phillips ’20

There are many restaurants and small businesses around Athens, Ohio, that have made my past four years at Ohio University feel like home.

One of my favorite restaurants is Souvlaki’s Mediterranean Garden.

Everyone I know just refers to it as Souvlaki’s. It has things like gyros, burgers, cheese curds and fried pickles. My go-to meal there is a corn dog with fried pickles.

Not only is the food good, but it’s the memories I’ve made with my friends there over the years that makes it so special. It is open until 4 a.m., so after a late night my friends and I would always go there. You have to wait in the long line—the experience is what makes it.

The same people are always working there as well, and they are very good at their job, while being very nice and patient with the night scene in Athens.

This is a place I will continue to come back and visit after I leave Ohio University.
