Summer 2020 | Tier II – Cross-Cultural Perspectives

Ohio University students can choose from a variety of online courses this summer that meet the Tier II – Cross-Cultural Perspectives general education requirement.

The following are Arts & Sciences courses that meet Tier II requirements.

Tier II – Cross-Cultural Perspectives

CLWR 3330 Introduction to Islam

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Loren Lybarger
  • Description: This course introduces Islam as a religious and cultural system. Topics include pre-Islamic Arabia, the Prophet Muhammad and the first Muslims, the Qur’an and shari’a, basic ritual practices, mysticism, theology and philosophy, Shi’ism, the visual and musical arts, women, modernism, fundamentalism, and Islam in the USA.

GEOG 1310 Globalization and the Developing World

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • Elizabeth Wangui
  • Description: This course is a survey of globalization and its impact on development, international relations, environment and culture in developing countries around the world.

LAT 1110 Beginning Latin I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • James Andrews and Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This is the first of a year-long sequence that introduce the fundamentals of Latin grammar, syntax, and morphology. Emphasis on reading continuous passages of Latin prose written by or adapted from ancient authors.

LAT 1120 Beginning Latin II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This is the second in a year-long sequence that introduce the fundamentals of Latin grammar, syntax, and morphology. Emphasis on reading continuous passages of Latin prose written by or adapted from ancient authors.

PBIO 2170 Women in Science

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • Kim Thompson
  • Description: Students explore the lives, discoveries and challenges of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) throughout history into the modern era, across a variety of disciplines. They evaluate policies, laws and other strategies that advance equity in opportunities and recognition for women in science worldwide.

SPAN 2110 Intermediate Spanish I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • Description: In this culture-based approach to increased language proficiency, students continue to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills as they study diverse history and customs of Spanish speakers around the world. First course in second-year sequence.

SPAN 2120 Intermediate Spanish II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Description: Continuation of 2110. In this culture-based approach to increased language proficiency, students continue to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills as they study diverse history and customs of Spanish speakers around the world.
  • Completion of 2120 fulfills foreign language requirement of College of Arts and Sciences.
