Summer 2020 | Complete a Year of Language in One Summer

Ohio University students can take a year of language courses in just one summer.

Both Latin and Spanish are offered in the beginning two-course sequence and the intermediate two-course sequence.

Latin

LAT 1110 Beginning Latin I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • James Andrews and Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This is the first of a year-long sequence that introduce the fundamentals of Latin grammar, syntax, and morphology. Emphasis on reading continuous passages of Latin prose written by or adapted from ancient authors.

LAT 1120 Beginning Latin II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This is the second in a year-long sequence that introduce the fundamentals of Latin grammar, syntax, and morphology. Emphasis on reading continuous passages of Latin prose written by or adapted from ancient authors.

LAT 2110 Intermediate Latin I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • James Andrews and Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This course continues emphasis on reading skills developed in first year. Readings include numerous prose excerpts from a variety of authors; content primarily concerns Roman history, as well as some poetry.

LAT 2120 Intermediate Latin II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Neil Bernstein
  • Description: This course continues emphasis on reading skills developed in Latin 2110. Reading excerpts are from a variety of authors with an emphasis on Roman poetry

Spanish

SPAN 1110 Elementary Spanish I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • Description: This course focuses on developing proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing essential to interactive language use. First course in beginning Spanish sequence.

SPAN 1120

Elementary Spanish II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Description: This course focuses on developing proficiency in listening, reading, speaking, and writing essential to interactive language use. Second course in beginning Spanish sequence.

SPAN 2110 Intermediate Spanish I

  • Summer Session I, starts May 11
  • Description: In this culture-based approach to increased language proficiency, students continue to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills as they study diverse history and customs of Spanish speakers around the world. First course in second-year sequence.

SPAN 2120 Intermediate Spanish II

  • Summer Session II, starts June 29
  • Description: Continuation of 2110. In this culture-based approach to increased language proficiency, students continue to develop listening, reading, speaking and writing skills as they study diverse history and customs of Spanish speakers around the world.
  • Completion of 2120 fulfills foreign language requirement of College of Arts and Sciences.
