Days like today, I am lucky that I chose to work at a pizza shop. The summer of my senior year in high school I applied for Eats N’ Treats. I was not expecting to be working there still to this day.

I had often dreamed of getting a job and them allowing me to come back during my breaks from college to work. Yes, I am lucky enough that this family-owned operation allows me to come back.

Hearing that I would not be able to finish my freshman year of college in Athens, Ohio, had an impact on me in so many different ways. One of those ways was me losing my source of income. I had been working two jobs before leaving for spring break. When I heard the news, I contacted my boss to ask her if I could stay on the schedule for the following weeks. Little did I know weeks would turn into months!

Never would I believe that I would still have a job in a situation like today’s. Everyday we are at risk of shutting down to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This situation has helped me understand that I am lucky to have a job at this moment. Never take your days for granted because it could change at any moment. Being a essential worker at a time like this helps me in more ways then it can be explained.

Times like these are hard, but if you choose to eat out remember to support LOCAL businesses first!
