Abstract: The lecture will give the significant of incorporating the heavy metal oxide ‘bismuth oxide, Barium oxide, Zinc oxide’ in borate glass system and studying its effect on the glass structure, durability, gamma-ray and neutron shielding ability. In this lecture, I will illustrate the latest results achieved by our research team regarding the possibility of using borate glasses as a barrier or protective shielding in the radiation facilities. Borate glasses with different modifiers (oxides) have prepared by the conventional quenching technique. These glass systems were fully characterized by using XRD, FESEM, FTIR, and DTA. Optical absorption and transmittance spectra have been measured for all prepared samples. Significant physical properties were also determined and deeply interpreted.  Furthermore, the radiation shielding characterizations for the glass systems will be also presented. Several radiation shielding properties (such as,  linear and mass attenuation coefficientsmean free path, and half value layer of the photon energy ranges between 0.015 and 15 MeV) of the new prepared glasses were determined.  Finally, a brief about the possibility of using different simulations (XCOM or FLUKA MCNP) to conduct the experimental data and test the validity of the code for future studies.
