Contemporary History | “Breaking news in Washington and with the Trump administration,” Sept. 24

The Contemporary History Institute hosts a talk by Ohio University alum Ray Locker on “Breaking news in Washington and with the Trump administration,” on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Baker 242.

This event is co-hosted by the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.

No administration in recent memory has broken so many of the traditional rules of American politics, governance and Washington than that of President Donald Trump. His use of social media, starting with Twitter, has allowed him to control much of the spot news agenda, and his public affairs operation is essentially useless in terms of providing information. But opportunities to break original stories remain, even if the White House is not cooperative. Enterprising journalists can use documents, data and other sources to break original work, drive the news and bring about change. Following the money, avoiding spin and casting a skeptical eye at forces on all sides make covering the White House and Washington happen.
