Dr. Matthew Barrile, online curricular designer and Spanish lecturer in the Modern Languages Department, delivered a presentation at the spring term Modern Languages Department Colloquium on March 26.

In his presentation, “Spanish on Your Time: The Asynchronous Online Language Classroom,” Barrile detailed the unique design processes of an asynchronous online language course. He also discussed design tips and best practices, ways to ensure that students are aware of self-regulated learning, and what tools and activities can be implemented so that learners build community as well as excel in the development of their oral skills and listening comprehension in the target language.

Barrile will be presenting this paper in May at the 12th International Conference on e-Learning & Innovative Pedagogies in Hobart, Australia.
