Dr. Joshua Hill, Assistant Professor of History at Ohio University, will deliver a talk on Thursday March 7 at 4:30pm in Baker Center 242.

Voting as a Rite: A History of Elections in Modern ChinaIn his recently published Voting as a Rite: A History of Elections in Modern China (Harvard University Press), Hill covers the period from the Opium War to the present (1840–2018). He shifts the focus of inquiry away from the democratic efficacy of elections to the assumptions, expectations, and evaluations of those who participated in them. This event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Ohio University’s History Department and Contemporary History Institute.
