Ohio University’s Chemistry and Biochemistry Colloquium Series presents Dr. Javier Carvajal Barriga on “Bioengineering undergrad program and the search of self-sustainability at PUCE”, of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador on Monday, April 22, at 4 p.m. in Clippinger Laboratory 194.
Javier Carvajal is a Professor of Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales CNIB at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador.

Abstract: Ecuador is widely recognized as a megadiverse country with still unexplored and unexploited biological resources. The Bioengineering program at PUCE is being designed aiming to fulfill the necessity of forming new professionals with sharp strengths in technopreneurship. We are constructing one undergrad program where it has been intertwined the basic sciences, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
This talk will be focused on three examples of new techno based enterprises that are in formation and development within PUCE. Namely, beer production (Quito, 1566), ethanol and derivatives (CNIB-Biopro), and nanocellulose (Nanobuilt). Additionally, the before mentioned as well as other future enterprises will fit a model of circular economy aiming the selfsustainability of scholarship programs for Bioengineering students, funded by part of the revenues.
