Chemistry Hosts 3-Minute Thesis® Contest for Graduate Students, Sept. 26 & Oct. 3

The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department is hosting a 3-Minute Thesis® contest in the coming two weeks. Senior graduate students (fifth year and up) will present their research projects on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Clippinger 194 auditorium, while third- and fourth-year students will compete a week later on Oct. 3 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Clippinger 194.

The attendees will rate the presentations, and first and second prizes will be awarded at both events. 3-Minute Thesis® contests were launched last year in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department by Graduate Chair Eric Masson.

The 3-Minute Thesis was founded by the University of Queensland in 2008. Competitions are now held at more than 200 universities and colleges across Canada, United Kingdom, United States, Europe, New Zealand, Asia Pacific, Central and South America, and Middle East.

Competitors have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis and its significance. Competitors must consolidate their ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.
