New Faculty Learning Community | Women in STEEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics, and Math)

While women’s enrollment in some STEM fields such as the biological and life science has increased over the last several years, there are many fields in which women remain underrepresented. These include some of the traditional STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and include fields such as Economics.

The Women in STEEM Faculty Learning Community will bring together faculty who are interested in tackling this issue here at Ohio University. The community goals will be to:

  • Assess the current state of women’s enrollment and retention in STEEM fields.
  • Review current literature that addresses recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Develop recruitment materials aimed at increasing women’s enrollment in STEEM fields.
  • Develop an outline for a recruitment/retention program to be implemented at Ohio University pending future funding.

Participants should expect to meet once per month throughout the 2018-19 school year. Participants will receive a $500 stipend upon completing the year-long commitment.

Those interested in joining the faculty learning community should submit a statement of interest to either Kelly Bubp or Tia McDonald by Aug. 31, 2018. The statement of interest should include a brief bio statement and a description of why you are interested in the FLC.
