Poetry Reading: Pauletta Hansel, Roy Bentley, Kari Gunter-Seymour, June 14

The season’s final installment of a new reading series, Spoken & Heard: Poetry of Departure and Relevance, is June 14 at The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens.

Thursday’s reading features Pauletta Hansel and Roy Bentley; the opening is local poet Kari Gunter-Seymour.

Hansel is a “poet, memoirist, teacher, and editor [who] served as the first Poet Laureate of Cincinnati from April 2016 through March 2018. She is author of six poetry collections, most recently Palindrome (Dos Madres Press, 2017), which was awarded the prestigious Weatherford Award for the best Appalachian poetry book of 2017.”

Bentley is the author of Any One Man (Bottom Dog Press, 1992), Boy in a Boat (University of Alabama Press, 1986), Starlight Taxi (Lynx House Press, 2013), and The Trouble with a Short Horse in Montana (White Pine Press, 2006). He has also been awarded an NEA Creative Writing Fellowship in poetry, six Ohio Arts Council fellowships, and an Individual Artist Fellowship in poetry.

Gunter-Seymour is “a poet and photographer. Her chapbook, Serving, was the 2016 Yellow Chair Review Chapbook Contest runner-up. She is Poet Laureate for Athens, Ohio.”
