Dr. Viorel Popescu, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences in Ohio University’s College of Arts & Sciences, will be the featured guest on the Party Line talk show with Dave Palmer on WATH radio from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23. Listeners can tune in to 970 AM/97.1 FM and can call in to ask questions at 740-592-6646.

Popescu will discuss how wildlife and conservation research can inform wildlife management and policy in Ohio and elsewhere, focusing on several projects ongoing in the lab (bobcat ecology, frogs and climate change, and turtles and roads), and answer questions such as:

  • What do we know and how can we learn more about Ohio’s recovering bobcat population?
  • Do we have a good grasp on the ecological impacts of hydraulic fracturing (fracking)?
  • Of turtles and roads: Why did the box turtle cross the road?
  • Will climate change doom frogs or can they adapt to cope with withering waters and teetering temperatures?
  • Wildlife data are messy; how do we deal with uncertainties when such data is used in management?

Popescu’s research interests include wildlife ecology (particularly mammals, amphibians and reptiles), conservation planning, biostatistics and transposing science into practical management and conservation actions. He has been a member of the Ohio University faculty since January 2016.
