Poetry Reading by Scott Woods and Ivars Balkits, May 24

spoken and heard: poetry of departure and resistance

The latest installment of a new reading series, Spoken & Heard: Poetry of Departure and Relevance, will take place on May 24 at The Dairy Barn Arts Center in Athens.

Thursday’s reading will feature Columbus-area poet Scott Woods; opening for Woods is local writer Ivars Balkits.

Woods is the author of Prince and Little Weird Black Boy Gods (2017), Urban Contemporary History Month (2016), and We Over Here Now (2013).

Balkits has published prose and poetry in a variety of journals and anthologies, in addition to authoring a full-length play examining nineteenth-century industrial labor unions.

All events begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. Questions may be directed to gunterseymour@gmail.com.

The final installment will take place on Thursday, June 14, and will feature Paulette Hansel, Roy Bentley, and Kari Gunter-Seymour.
