You may have noticed that summer courses are now available through the Course Offerings page, but why choose to take one? There are plenty of reasons.

To name just a few:

  • It is a good way to catch up on credit hours if you are behind.
  • You can re-take courses in order to boost your GPA.
  • You may be able to graduate early.
  • You will get to experience smaller class sizes.

In addition to academic reasons, you need to experience Athens in the summertime at least once. It is less crowded, more peaceful, and really beautiful. But do not let that fool you – although Athens quiets down during the summer, it continues to bustle with various music and art events.

For those who still prefer to go home, there are also a number of online and regional campus options.

There is no hold placed for summer courses, so you don’t necessarily need to meet with an adviser, but we always encourage you to come see us! Also, be sure to talk to financial aid about how taking summer courses could affect your funding and if your funding will cover any potential re-takes due to the recent changes with federal aid.

In the meantime, have a productive Week 8 and enjoy the spring break!
