Graduate Student Senate Needs Department Reps from Arts & Sciences

By Maria Modayil
President to the Graduate Student Senate

We have several positions on Graduate Student Senate open for your departments and college. As you are aware, shared governance is a very important part of the current University administration.

Graduate students affairs and needs are important to President M. Duane Nellis, and we can be effective in our efforts only if we can hear from graduate students from various departments and colleges. The following positions are open:

College of Arts & Sciences:

  • Senator

Department Representatives:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Geography
  • Linguistics
  • Political Science

GSS general body meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in Walter 235. Senators (for each college) are expected to ensure open and timely communication of interests, concerns, and needs of their constituents with the GSS and their College Deans. In addition to attending meetings, they serve on at least two GSS committees or Ohio University standing committees as determined by the Executive Council. Senators also hold three office hours each week, which can overlap with any Graduate Appointment hours.

Department Representatives (for each graduate degree program) are expected to ensure open and timely communication of interests, concerns, and needs of their constituents with GSS and their Senators. They serve on at least one GSS committee or Ohio University standing committee as determined by the Executive Council. Representatives also hold two office hours each week, which can overlap with any Graduate Appointment hours.
