Biology Students | Apply Now for Maier Undergraduate Research Award

The Dr. Sig Maier Undergraduate Research Fund has been established by a gift from the estate of Dr. Sigfried Maier, a highly respected past member of the Biological Sciences faculty. The fund provides support for Biological Sciences undergraduate majors to conduct all types of research.

Dr. Maier was a professor of Microbiology at Ohio University from 1963 until 1994 and contributed greatly to microbiology instruction for undergraduate students. He then served as an Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences from 1994 until 1996. Dr. Maier was born in Germany but received his Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State Universit

How to Apply

Students can apply now for two awards of $500 each for academic year 2018-19. Deadline for receipt of all application materials is Friday, March 22.

Both bench and field research projects are eligible for funding. Students must have a sponsoring faculty mentor to apply and have attained junior or senior status by the beginning of the 2018-19 academic year.

Students cannot simultaneously receive this award and PACE, work study or other research support.

Application forms may be picked up in the BARR office in Irvine 109 in February.
